The North Route

If you are planning to visit Ethiopia I would strongly recommend you visit the following UNESCO Heritage Sites. Begin your trip with Bahir Dar where you will see Lake Tana which provides the largest water flow into the Blue Nile. Continuing North, you should visit Gondar where the Fasilides of Ethiopia left an impressive mark with castles and other interesting structures. Moving further north the region of Axum where the tall vertical pagan tombs have left many baffled with the unique techniques used in building and erecting these monuments. Last but not least along of the North route is Lalibela the town with a clusters of churches build totally from one massive rock. This majestic work has brought flocks of people from almost all corners of the globe to admire these monuments.
This would be a brief introduction to what you would see as a traveler on the North route in Ethiopia. However, the South of Ethiopia has a different topography with more rural structures and diverse cultures like the Mursi Tribes or the Afar nomads in the lowest point and also below sea level on the African continent the Danakil Depression where the famous Lucy was discovered. Ethiopia is also the paradise for bird watchers who will be given the opportunity to encounter bird species found no where else.
